PAST EVENTS

FATE AND FABLE

Fate and Fable is an evening of storytelling and song based around a song title. In April, we did Nirvana’s 90s anthem ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Featuring all local talent (some well-seasoned and some performing for the very first time) and hosted by Melia Naughton and Sally Schofield, Fate and Fable is an eclectic cabaret of the mind and a night of nostalgia.

A LOVE LETTER TO MUSICALS

An ode to the magic of musicals and to singing your heart out, this feature-length sing-along mash-up of some of the most famous and beloved songs from iconic musicals was an audience favourite at the Bangalow Film Festival in March. This is a one-of-a-kind emphatic love letter to musicals and to singing was created by the Shire Choir for the Bangalow Film Festival as part of the Made in the Northern Rivers program.

SING WITH WILD ABANDON

SHIRE CHOIR at Byron Writers Festival, Bangalow Showgrounds, Sunday 13 August 2023

For the finale of a weekend of ideas and inspiration, festival-goers are invited to join Shire Choir to learn and sing a classic pop/rock song in parts, then sing their hearts out with hundreds of other voices.

Sounds of the Shire Choir, a supergroup formed with choir members, singers and musicians from around the Byron Shire, here singing backup in glorious harmony with DJ Groove Terminator as the finale of the 2023 Byron Music Festival.

Georgians sing songs for all aspects of life – work, healing, feasting, love, mourning and dancing with songs passed down by ear since the 5th century. These songs are usually in three parts often full of dissonant chords. A love of outrageous harmony is welcomed at this workshop led by Tsinskaro.

Tsinskaro, Australia’s leading Georgian vocal ensemble returned with another culturally uplifting Concert Supra, leading us in customary toasts, stories, song and supper at the A&I Hall, Bangalow.

Fate and Fable is part Spicks and Specks, part The Moth and all Northern Rivers style. Hosted by Shire Choir’s Melia Naughton and Sally Schofield, each event is curated around the theme of a popular song title.

Together we use the power of our voice to manifest abundance, encourage connection and community, enhance well-being and joy. Including yum cha and tea!

An incredible opportunity to experience the unique vocal polyphony of Georgia, a country at the crossroads of Europe and Asia with one of the oldest singing (and winemaking) traditions in the world.

Singing for Busy Women is an antidote to the demands and pace of our busy modern lives. Enjoy vocal and breath exercises, and a lovely afternoon tea.
